Historically, the Students Council of MIT did not come into existence until over two decades after the establishment of the School, 1927. It was started from 1951 that the Students began to organize themselves into a group to form what they called “the Burma Divinity School’s Student Christian Union”.

Nevertheless, due to difference opinions arising among the Students in regard to the name of the Student Christian Union it was later changed to the Burma Divinity Students’ Council in 1962.

The aims and objectives of this Students Council as designed in its new constitution were as mentioned below:

  • To promote fellowship and to have better understanding among the Students.

  • To enable Students to witness for Christ on the campus and in the world.

  • To corporate with Christian Students fellowship of Colleges, Institutes, Seminaries, and Universities.

  • To corporate with the faculty and Staff for the multi-developments of the institute.

  • To unite the efforts of all the activities for the support of the Myanmar Institute of Theology.

Students Activities:

There are various school activities that the Students are enthusiastically taken under the leadership of Students Council. The Council has been guided and encouraged by the Staff Council of the School. It has carried out all its activities through the committees. The Students Council has participated in the annual Fun Fete, Prayer Day, Christmas Cantata, Christmas Parties and Christmas Gospel Team during Christmas Vocation. Morning devotion, Dawn Prayer on weekdays and Vesper Service in every Thursday evening is required as part of the Students Spiritual Life in the Seminary. Other activities are publishing the School’s Annual Magazine, producing the School’s T-shirts, and getting involved in various inter-seminary Sports. In addition, social concerns such as Condolence Service for Students, faculty and Staff for the bereaved families, participating in funeral service of friends are part of the Students Council movement on the campus.
