How to Apply

PROGRAMS OF STUDY

At present MIT offers the following programs of study.

  • M.Th (Master of Theology: Full time two-year program)
  • MACS (Master of Arts in Christian Studies: Part time three-year program)
  • M.Div. (Master of Divinity: Full time three-year program)
  • MTS (Master of Theological Studies: Full time two-year program)
  • BARS (Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies: Full time four-year program)

Application

A student desiring to enter the Seminary for a degree program (See BARS prospectus for detail information on BARS degree program) must file a formal application before January 31. Myanmar Institute of Theology admits qualified men and women students of any race and denomination affiliated to the Myanmar Council of Churches.

1. THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF THEOLOGY

The program is designed for students who want to pursue theological studies in a concentrated area. It is also intended for those who wish to engage in disciplined study in theological field at a level above the M. Div and its equivalent programs.

Admission Requirements

1. The applicants must have a M.Div. degree or an equivalent degree.

2. The application must furnish two letters of recommendation, one from the pastor of the church of which he or she is a member and the other an official of the denominational body.

3. A copy of the Degree Certificate.

4. A recommendation from a physician for physical fitness for intensive study.

5. Other accompanying documents to be submitted are a short up-to-date life history and statement of Christian faith and experience.

6. The applicant must sit for English proficiency and the chosen field.

Components of the Program

1. 32 credit hours of academic work distributed over two semesters of full-time resident study, plus a thesis writing.

2. The student must maintain 80% for each subject. The cumulative average for two semester’s study must be at least 85% .

3. Oral defend of the thesis.

2. THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS IN CHRISTIAN STUDIES (MACS)

The program of studies for the degree of Master of Arts in Christian Studies is a weekend program specifically designed for people with full-time jobs who desire to be equipped for work in the church and society. It is oriented not for teaching and research but for integration of theological understanding in the context of continuing responsible engagement in the world.

Admission Requirements

1. The applicant must have four years of college-level study with a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Theology or an equivalent degree.

2. The applicant must furnish two letters of recommendation, one from the pastor of the church of which he or she is a member and an official of the denominational body.

3. Other accompanying documents to be submitted are a 200 word up-to-date life history and statement of Christian faith and experience.

4. A letter of recommendation from a medical doctor for physical fitness for the study.

5. The applicant must sit for an English Proficiency Examination and will be accepted by scoring 60% and above.

Components of the Program

The components of the Master of Arts in Christian Studies program are two in numbers:
1. 64 credit hours distributed over six semesters for the MACS degree. The student must maintain an average of 70% for each course and annual over-all grade. The cumulative average for two years’ study must be at least 80%.

2. The completion of a research paper.

2. THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF DIVINITY AND MASTER OF THEOLOGICAL STUDIES

Myanmar Institute of Theology offers the Bachelor of Divinity degree for students who wish to deepen their preparation for ministry beyond B.Th. course or those who desire graduate study in Theology in preparation for the educational and pastoral ministry and other forms of church vocation.

Admission Requirements
1. The applicant must have four years of college-level study graduating with a B.Th., B.A., B.Sc., B.R.E. or an equivalent degree.

2. A B.Th./ B.R.E. graduate must have at least one year of Christian service before he or she joins the M.Div./ MTS. program.

3. The application must furnish two letters of recommendation, one from the pastor of the church of which he or she is a member and the other an official of the denominational body.

4. A copy of the Degree Certificate.

5. A recommendation from a physician for physical fitness for intensive study.

6. Other accompanying documents to be submitted are a short up-to-date life history and statement of Christian faith and experience.

7. The applicant must sit for an English Proficiency and Biblical Knowledge examinations and will be eligible for admission into the program by scoring 60% and above. Applicants with a score between 40% and 59% will be allowed to join the Special English class. Those scoring 39% and below will not be eligible to join the M.Div. / M.T.S. program.


(A) Components of the Program for M.Div.

The components of the Master of Divinity program are five in numbers:

1. 96 credit hours of academic work distributed over six semesters of full-time resident study.

2. The student must maintain an average of 70% for each subject and for the annual overall grade. The cumulative average for three years’ study must be at least 80%.

3. The completion of an approved program of field education. (3 credits)

4. The completion of a summer internship program. (3 credits)

5. The writing of a senior thesis. (3 credits)


(B) Components of the Program for M.T.S.

The components of the Master of Theological Studies program are three in numbers:

1. 64 credit hours of academic work distributed over four semesters of full-time resident study.

2. The student must maintain an average of 70% for each subject and for the annual overall grade. The cumulative average for two years’ study must be at least 80%.

3. The writing of a senior thesis. (3 Credits)
